Pediatricians Endorse Cell Phone Safety Legislation

On December 13, 2012, the American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP)  announced its endorsement of H.R. 6358, the Cell Phone Right To Know Act.

H.R. 6358, introduced by Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), is a bill to grant a consumer’s right-to-know, by providing for warning labels on cell phones.

The bill would create a new national research program to study cell phones and health, and would require the Environmental Protection Agency to update the outdated Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).  The current standards are 16 years old.

In 2011 the World Health Organization concluded that there was sufficient evidence to classify cell phones as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”

Because of the differences in bone density, children are more vulnerable to cell phone radiation than adults, and are subject to absorbing higher levels deeper into their brain.

Kucinich Calls Out Monsanto: GMO Labeling

Ohio Democrat, Congressman, Dennis Kucinich, stated that 90 percent of Americans want GMO labeling, and have a right to know if their food is genetically engineered.  Kucinich is the sponsor of HR 5353, a legislation that will provide for a national food labeling law.

“Monsanto has been a prime mover in the influence and corruption of the political process of how food is grown, tested, and labeled,” says Congressman Kucinich.

In 1992 the Food and Drug Administration decided that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are the functional equivalent of conventional foods.  They arrived at this decision without testing GMOs for allergenicity, toxicity, antibiotic resistance and functional characteristics.  As a result hundreds of millions of acres of GMO crops were planted in America without the knowledge or consent of the American People: no safety testing and no long term health studies.

Cell Phones and Brain Cancer Warning Proposed

Cell phones and brain cancer?  Until we know for sure, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has introduced HR 6358, the Cell Phone Right To Know Act, a bill to grant a consumer’s right-to-know by providing warning labels on cell phones.

“Consumers have a right to know the radiation levels of cell phones and whether they are buying the phone with the lowest – or the highest level of exposure to cell phone radiation.  They also deserve to have up-to-date exposure standards that are put together by health professionals without conflicts of interest,” said Kucinich.
