Iron Skillet Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 refrigerated 9-inch pie crusts, divided
  • 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place butter in a large cast-iron skillet; place in oven while preheating until melted, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir brown sugar into melted butter; return to oven until bubbling, about 5 minutes.
  3. Gently lay 1 pie crust on top of brown sugar mixture, without pressing down; arrange apple slices on top of crust.
  4. Combine white sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a bowl; sprinkle over apple slices. Place remaining pie crust over apple slices; cut slits in top crust for ventilation. Seal top and bottom crusts together.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until top crust is lightly browned, about 45 minutes.

NO SUGAR APPLE PIE RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 2 (9 inch) pie crusts
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can unsweetened apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 cups sliced green apples

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Whisk 1/3 cup apple juice concentrate together with cornstarch and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Simmer apples with remaining apple juice concentrate in a large saucepan until apples are tender, about 10 minutes. Stir in cornstarch mixture and continue to simmer until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Spoon apple mixture into pastry-lined pie plate. Cover with top crust. Seal and flute edges. Cut steam vents in top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until crust is golden brown, about 45 minutes.
