Green Superfood Health Drinks

Green Drink
GREEN DRINK

You’re in a rush most of the time, and can’t get all the greens you need to stay healthy.  Juicing vegetables is time consuming, because you have to haul the produce home, clean the veggies, put them through the juicer, and then clean the juicer, and other utensils.

Drinking your greens in powdered form is an easy solution.  Just open the jar, measure a spoonful, add water, stir, and drink.

Green drinks aren’t cheap, but medical bills can make you bankrupt. Wouldn’t you rather eat healthy than wind up sick?

At the bottom of this post is a list of several companies that produce green drinks.  You don’t have to buy them because they’re listed here.  Do your own research, and find a green drink to your liking. Continue reading “Green Superfood Health Drinks”

Risky Exercise 101

FITNESS BALL + DUMBBELLS = ACCIDENT

A common exercise is to sit, or lie down on a fitness ball while holding dumbbells in each hand.  Is it a good idea? Not really.  Why so?  Because if you lose your balance, and fall, you can suffer broken bones in your shoulders, arms or neck.

Risky Overhead Tricep Exercise
Risky Overhead Tricep Exercise

The fitness ball is designed to enhance your flexibility, core strength, and coördination.

Don’t misuse this great piece of equipment.

Maybe you’re accustomed to using dumbbells while positioned on a fitness ball.  Maybe you’ve never lost your balance.  There’s always that first time.

Fitness balls can break during your exercise routine.

The first time you lose your balance on a fitness ball, while holding a set of dumbbells, may be the last time you ever try it.  After you’ve injured yourself, you won’t do it again.

Exercise Advice You Don’t Need

Have you met the gym know-it-all?  The one who doles out exercise advice at your gym, or employee fitness center.  They’re ready, willing, and able to tell you how you should go about your exercise routine.

Your friend isn't the best source for exercise advice.
Your friend isn’t the best source for exercise advice.

Would you allow an amateur photographer take pictures of your wedding?  Probably not. Then why allow an amateur to give you fitness advice?

  1. Your friends are not professionally trained to give exercise advice.
  2. Your friends do not know how to assess your abilities.
  3. Your friends are not familiar with the exercise equipment that suits you best.
  4. Your friends don’t have a clue about exercises that are risky, or even dangerous.
  5. Your friends don’t know how to design exercise programs for you, themselves or anyone else.
  6. You’ll wind up with an injury.
  7. You’ll waste your time, and won’t get results.
  8. Your friends do not know how to prevent exercise injuries during training sessions.
  9. Your friends are unqualified.
  10. Your friends can’t help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Exhale as you release both legs to the starting position.

Stop the exercise if you experience discomfort or pain.

  • Do not allow your shoulders or hips to sway back and forth.

Off The Grid: Vegetable Spiralizer

VEGETABLE SPIRALIZER
By Paderno

No Power – No Worries – You can still eat healthy!

A manually powered kitchen tool that spiralizes vegetables.  It comes with three blades. It’s easy to clean, and to store.  Inexpensive.  No batteries required, completely manual.  Fun to use.  Fast preparation.

If you’re in a power outage – no worries.  You can still have fresh spaghetti, provided you have zucchini.

FAST NO COOK ZUCCHINI SPAGHETTI
A Noodle Experience Without Grains

Aside from power outages, this clever kitchen tool comes in handy when you’re in a hurry.  Just put a zucchini through the spiralizer.  Within seconds you’ll have a large serving of fresh zucchini spaghetti.

Cover your zucchini pasta with your favorite sauce.  Break open a jar of Rao’s, Trader Joe’s, or Whole Foods Four Cheese tomato sauce.  Since the cheese is already in the sauce, you don’t have to grate parmesan, or romano onto your veggie pasta.

If you have time, you can add sautéed mushrooms, garlic or onions to this pasta dish.  Zucchini is a bland vegetable, so don’t hesitate spicing things up with cayenne, black pepper, or chile pepper.

Zucchini pasta, is grain-free, so it’s good for anyone who wants to avoid grains.

SPIRALIZED RAW CARROTS
A Fun Way To Eat Your Veggies

If you don’t like eating raw carrot sticks, spiralize a carrot stick instead.  A sprialized carrot is thin and crunchy. Drizzle your favorite dressing over the raw carrots. Experiment with other raw veggies, mix them together in a salad bowl, add dressing, and enjoy.

The spiralizer is not a toy.  The blades are very sharp, so don’t let your children use it.

My Favorite Cheese Is Loaded With Salt

The cheese I’m referring to is Pecorino Romano, a sharp, dense, flaky-textured, aromatic Italian cheese, used for grating.  If you’re on a salt-restricted diet, this cheese is not for you.

Another way to eat Pecorino Romano is to slice off pieces, and place it on a slice of crusty bread or fruit. Pears are an excellent complement to the salty cheese flavor.

The name Romano refers to the ancient Romans, who began making this cheese 2000 years ago.  Made from sheep’s milk, Pecorino Romano was a staple in the diet of the legionaries of the ancient Roman army.

Because of its high fat content, a little goes a long way. It’s also high in calcium, and that’s a good thing.  Sharper than Parmesan, Pecorino Romano has also been described as hearty, bold, full-flavored, briny, and pungent.

Not to make it a daily habit because of its high fat content, but something of a treat.  Good to take on backpacking trips because this cheese won’t spoil easily.

Trader Joe’s sells grated and solid Pecorino Romano, at very reasonable prices.
